Award-winning environmentally friendly

high performance surfboard and stand up paddleboard factory in California

Dedicated to building high performance surfboards and accessories through innovative design, materials and construction methods. They strive to do so with the lowest possible impact on the environment while also giving back to the global surf community through support of various environmental and humanitarian organizations.

Founder Ryan Harris is on a mission… to demonstrate to the greater surfing community that there are greener and more sustainable surfboard production methods that will not compromise the performance of the board.

– We use the best sustainable materials to make each and every board. Super Sap bio epoxies from Entropy Resins have gone into every board for the past six years and will continue to. Recycled foam blanks and recyclable blanks are at the core and we use a variety of other non traditional materials that help us reduce our carbon footprint. Sustainably harvested veneers, organic plant based cloths, and a volcanic rock based composite are some of  the key ingredients going into our green boards – Ryan Harris.

Ryan is constantly on the lookout for better, cleaner, and greener construction methods, teaming up with major industry brands such as Pyzel, Maurice Cole, Lost and Channel Islands to glass boards in an eco-friendly way and expand the visibility of green glassing, also working with Sustainable Surf to promote ecoboards and greener construction methods.

Taking eco boards to the next level, in 2018 Earth Technologies became the World’s first zero-waste surfboard factory.

“All shop trash/waste gets sorted/categorized then processed by two machines: an industrial shredder and particle reducer. Every bit of production waste from gloves, stir sticks, excess resin on floors, to brushes and squeegees will go through this process. Through the Vacuum Infusion Process we will turn our densified waste into usable products ranging from key chains, and coasters to fins and handplanes.”

Although he had found many ways to reduce, reuse and recycle within his factory, including a board recycling program, there were still some by-products of surfboard production, small scraps of foam, foam dust and sawdust that would still inevitably end up in landfill.

The solution was found with The Living Earth Systems, where mealworms are used to eat the foam and wood (yes, you read that right) turning it into organic waste, resulting in a board that’s not only ‘green’ but zero-waste too.

Earth Technologies continues to lead the world in eco-friendly surfboard production, proving that with passion and perseverence we can protect, rather than pollute, our ocean playground.
